- Volatile oil: zingiberne
- Oleoresins/phenolics: gingerols, shogaol
- Starch, proteins, fats
- Warming stimulant tonic
- Anti-inflammatory (not as potent as turmeric though!)
- Carminative (relieves that pesky gas!)
- Diaphoretic (sweat baby, sweat)
- Pungent bitter
- Antithrombotic (high doses)
Ginger is generally considered safe. For a tea I usually enjoy 1-2 tsp per cup of water and drink it as needed. Caution: if you have GERD (heartburn), the carminative aspect of ginger relaxes your lower esophageal sphincter tone and this may aggravate heartburn. Ginger may also interact with anticoagulants and may interfere with certain medications that act to thin your blood. Always consult your physician before you start a new supplement.

- Nausea & vomiting (pregnancy, motion/sea-sickness, chemotherapy)
- Gastric ulcers
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
- Coronary heart disease
- Thrombosis (prevention!!)
- Rheumatic conditions (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)
- Central Nervous System
- Migraines (prevent them but also decrease the amount of them!)
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
